I survived day one! It was a 31k distance but we did it. Except of course for the 21k train ride in the beginning. I had a good excuse though. The walk out of the city was ugly and industrial. We needed to save our energy for the beautiful green countryside. So we cheated..not a good start as pilgrims!
We could not have asked for better weather and our destination Santillana del mar was the perfect medieval village sans rats, beggars and plague.
Food has been great today we had pork cheeks and fried squid with a bottle of local wine. Yesterday I ate at a street fair, and, no, I didn't eat the octopus. I went for the enchiladas.

ReplyDeleteI'm all for the train ride past the ugly industrial area. Probably spared yourselves some carcinogens. Smart pilgrims!
